Ebay and Half.com are the ideal solution for the poor college
student who wants cheap textbooks!

Other sites
| Wikipedia |
http://www.wikipedia.org |
Wikipedia is the "free encyclopedia that anyone can edit", and
rivals even Encyclopaedia Britannica. Vandalism can (and does) happen,
but this usually gets corrected within a few minutes |
|
| Uncyclopedia |
http://www.uncyclopedia.org |
Uncyclopedia is a parody of Wikipedia with a similar format. Some of
its more unusual articles include
AAAAAAAAA!,
Roller coaster,
and Snakes on a
Plane, all intermixed with random Oscar Wilde quotes. |
|
| Theme Park Review |
http://www.themeparkreview.com |
TPR is possibly the most popular unofficial theme park site out
there. Robb and Elissa Alvey (formerly Elissa White, who has her own
Peep in RCT2) travel around the world, taking their antics (and cameras)
with them. |

| Absolutely Reliable |

Satire in coaster form. Powered by a 'gravy buffet' |

| Roller Coaster Database |

RCDB is a near complete listing of all roller coasters currently
operating, and many that are no longer operating |

If you have a RCT site and would like to make it better,
here are some tips
 |
Don't use banner advertising EVERYWHERE on the page. At
the header/footer is fine, but everywhere is not a good idea. People like
web sites, not billboards. |
 |
JavaScripts are fun, but they can be annoying. It might be
fun to ask for the user's name when surfing, but there isn't much need for a
feature. Text that chases the mouse cursor is just as annoying. |
 | Not everyone has broadband access. To make pages load
faster for those using AOL or modem connections, use thumbnail images and
compress images. Don't have music automatically play, as it adds to the load
time and some people find it annoying. |
 |
It's easy to copy content from the official site, but
sometimes it's easier for someone to just go to the official site instead.
Most good sites have original content |
 |
Animated text can be amusing, but also annoying at the
same time. Some sites I have visited have text that chases the mouse cursor
and can really be annoying. |
 |
Choose a color scheme that is easy to read and is constant
throughout the site. Bright colors are not the best idea. |
 | Don't post "false cheats", such as shift+RCT2,
e=mc2/e=mc3, the slide bomb, and closing the park for a year. RCT does not have built in cheats
(with the exception of peep names). |
 | Pop-ups are extremely annoying and take away from the
professionalism of a site. Try and avoid using them
if possible. Many free services automatically put them on every page, but
some provide workarounds. Flash ads can be just as bad as they make sounds
and cover up the content. (making users like me reach for the
"back" button) |
 | Only
use frames of you really need to. They can make navigation difficult
(especially with the back button), and some people just hate frames. Frames
also affect the accessibility of a site. |
 | Make sure your page works with multiple browsers. Most
people use Internet Explorer, but others may prefer Mozilla,
Opera, and even text based browsers. |
|
